Colmar (in French: Colmar; in Alsaciano: Colmer; in German: Colmar, between 1871-1918, Kolmar, between 1940-45) is a city and commune, located in the European community of Alsacia, it is the capital of the department of Alto Rin, in the Alsace region, France.
Colmar is first mentioned in the ninth century. Imperial Free Imperial City Member of the Alsacian Decapolis, knows a rapid development at the end of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
